If you would ask my friends what my favorite things in life are, they would probably come up with: my boyfriend, my bed, but most importantly, good food and good wine. I am always searching for nice restaurants and the best places for a little bite.

The Jane in Antwerp had been on my bucket list since the day they opened. Maybe even before that day. Since another dream of mine always had been to eat at Oud Sluis, which had 3 Michelin stars. However, a few years ago Sergio Hermans decided to close Oud Sluis and to start a new adventure with The Jane.

The Jane is located near the center of Antwerp in an old church. Entering the restaurant, it felt like we were walking in a chique movie. Everything was perfectly adjusted, the music, the lightning, the space, just everything. I was flabbergasted and it left me speechless for at least the first half an hour.

I did not make pictures of all the courses because I was too busy enjoying the night itself. However, I do want to share the few pictures I made.

We started the night with a perfect sour cocktail made of brandy which was matured in the same barrels which Pedro Ximenez is matured. Stirred with egg white and topped of with a zest of lemon. The second appetizer we got were these so called, smørrebrød with smocked mackerel and red beet. I cannot recall the rest of this dish, but what I do remember is that it was extremely good. 

One of the other dishes was this coquille with several preparations of pumping and yuzu. One of my favorites as well. Again, I can hardly describe how good this was and my illustration is totally not sufficient enough.

The last dish I made a picture of is Nick Brils signature dish, which was hop with langoustine and Belgian caviar. These flavors complemented each other so well, which made every bite a symphony!

As you can read, I enjoyed the dinner so much. It was truly a once-in-a-life-time-experience. What’s your most special dinner experience?
